Melbury House
Sir Giles Strangways, father to the nowe owner of it, built that faire and stronge house we see here, adjoining to which still remaines much old building, in which the Sanfords, antientlie lords of it, who deduced their pedigree from that great and plentifull familie of the Bassetts, inhabited, whose heirs generalls, being married to Browning and Maltravers, from the seconde, for that the issue of the first failed, it came by Stafford hereditarilie to Sir Thomas Strangways, whose monument, as also the monument of Browning and Maltravers, successivilie owners of it, you may see in a little church adjoining to the house. Sir Giles Strangways died in 1547. | |||
