Purse Caundle Manor in 1894 In the north of the county, one mile from Milborne Port and four from Sherborne. A contemporary account describes Purse Caundle as: A small decayed village in Dorsetshire with a population of about 130. Held in the time of Edward I by John Alayne, and in that of Henry VI by the Long family (walter Long, President of the Board of Trade), it passed by marriage to the Hanhams.
