Parnham House, until the time of Henry VIII the residence of the lords of the manor, is situated half a mile south of Beaminster. and was originally the seat of the Strode family, who became extinct some two hundred years ago. From Coker's survey of Dorsetshire we learn that "the river Birt, not far from Beminster, passeth under Parnham, finely seated within a park, the mansion of that right antient and worshipfull family of Strodes; which took their sirname from Strode, a manour not two miles distant, yet in their possession; and became lords of this place, by matching with the heire of Parnham or Parram, for soe more antiently were they written."
